The Brief
The client wanted to make better use of a compact bathroom that was narrow, relatively long and partly restricted by a chimney breast at the far end of the room.
Biggs Heat Technologies was asked to develop a layout that would maximise the available floor space while still providing both bathing and showering facilities, practical storage and a modern overall appearance.
The Challenge
The existing chimney breast projected into the room beside the bath position, creating an awkward recess and limiting the conventional layout options.
As with many smaller bathrooms, the position of the existing plumbing and drainage also needed careful consideration. Any proposed layout had to work technically, preserve comfortable movement through the room and avoid allowing the chimney breast to become wasted space.
Our Solution
Biggs Heat Technologies developed a tailored bathroom layout that worked with the shape of the room rather than attempting to conceal it.
- Surveyed the room and assessed the existing plumbing and drainage
- Selected a reversed P-shaped shower bath to suit the available recess
- Positioned the wider showering section within the chimney-breast niche
- Created a clean, straight visual line along the front of the bath
- Formed two recessed niches for toiletries and bathroom accessories
- Installed contemporary black taps, fittings and shower brassware
- Fitted a modern framed bath and shower screen
- Installed a wall-hung, wood-effect vanity unit
- Fully tiled the room using large-format subway tiles
- Finished the tiled surfaces in a brick-bond pattern with contrasting black grout
- Managed the installation through to final handover
The Result
The completed bathroom makes far better use of a difficult room shape while providing a comfortable bath, a practical showering area and useful integrated storage.
The wider end of the P-shaped bath fits neatly within the chimney recess, allowing the previously awkward space to become part of the design. The wall-hung vanity keeps more of the floor visible, helping the room feel less enclosed, while the recessed niches avoid the need for projecting shelves.
Black fittings and grout introduce a crisp contemporary finish, balanced by the warmer wood-effect vanity unit. The completed installation is practical, visually balanced and designed to provide many years of dependable use.
